Aerial Arts

In England and Wales, according to the national analysis of violence against women and girls (VAWG), published by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC), VAWG increased by 37% between 2018 and 2023, now running at 3,000 offences a day. Crimes include stalking, harassment, sexual assault and domestic violence’.
As we know much crime goes unreported and police often only see the tip of the iceberg. I want to R&D a multi-media performance to address the explosion of sexual violence against women and girls. While being non-binary inclusive, the vision is to elevate women (cis and trans alike).

‘Reclaim the Night’ performance will combine projections of images captured by the Hubble and James Webb telescope, with aerial arts, spoken word and pyrotechnics. I have been intensively training in Aerial Arts during 2024 and am working with Walk the Plank to develop the ideas. My show does not purport to stop the tsunami of abuse that is  assailing us, but it will begin to restore women to their rightful place of majesty. I want to use the notion of women as celestial bodies to redefine our physical and sexual identities using aerial arts. I can emulate the way a galaxy moves by spinning in orbits and creating swirling shapes alongside cosmic projections.
